Adrian J.S. Hale has been writing professionally for over two decades. She has worked for various food and lifestyle publications, travel guides, and cookbooks.

Starting in 2004, she had a regular food column at the Orlando Weekly, where she critiqued restaurants and wrote food related stories. For the past 20 years, she has been freelancing for publications such as Saveur, Portland Monthly, and others. She also worked as an editor on the Alice Water’s led travel guide series, Truth, Love & Clean Cutlery.

She teaches a bread class that also tours the bakeries of Portland through Airbnb, and she recently published Mama Bread: The Art of Naturally-Leavened Whole Grain Bread at Home.

She and her family travel extensively, but their home base is Portland, Oregon. Should you knock on her door, you will likely find Adrian elbow deep in ancient grain flour or levain starter. She pauses to hike, forage, delve into a good book, or sit around a table with the people she loves.
